2020 PBA Trade Value - Meralco: How underrated is Chris Newsome?

For today, we will tackle the team that met Ginebra in the most recent PBA finals, Meralco Bolts. We will rank their players according to their trade value. Let us define trade value as the potential return if a player will be traded, alone. If the players are not ranked, it indicates that I do not see the other teams paying value to get them.

#6 Reynel Hugnatan, Ranidel de Ocampo
The two veteran power forwards of Meralco is the last in this ranking because I do not think there are a lot of teams out there who are willing to give up value for them. Reynel struggled on the floor last season while RDO only played 20 games.

#5 Bryan Faundo, Trevis Jackson, Nico Salva
These are guys that could give Meralco a 2nd rounder and more. Bryan Faundo is the penultimate role-playing bigman. He can hit midrange shots and can defend the gigantic centers. Trevis Jackson was a top 6 pick in the 2018 draft but did not get enough opportunity in his rookie season. While Nico is a classic do-it-all forward that every team needs.

#4 Baser Amer, Cliff Hodge, Allein Maliksi
These are the guys that can fetch more than a 2nd rounder for Meralco. Amer has been lauded as one of the best young guards in the league. Hodge is the energetic power forward that every fanbase will appreciate. While Allein is one of the most underrated scorers in the league.

#3 Bong Quinto
Bong was not amazing for the entire 2019 PBA season. Fortunately for Meralco, his breakout happened in the Governors' Cup. Stat-stuffers like Quinto are increasing in importance in the league. So, there should be franchises out there that can give up a 1st round pick for Bong.

#2 Chris Newsome
I understand if you are not aware of the greatness of Newsome. The guy produced 14.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 44% FG per game. I think he is one of the best playmakers in the league. And I can see a few teams out there that could give up more than a 1st round pick for him.

#1 Raymond Almazan
To get Almazan, Meralco gave up two 1st round picks. I think, there are teams out there who will give up more for Almazan, today. Almazan exhibited his value in the Governors' Cup, wherein he played well to help Allen Durham carry Meralco to the finals.
