2020 PBA Trade Value - Rain or Shine: Is it time to trade James Yap?

We are down to the last two teams in our series of articles, wherein we rank each team according to the trade value of each player. Let us define trade value as the potential return if a player will be traded, alone.

In this article, we will tackle the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. If the players are not ranked, it indicates that I do not see the other teams paying value to get them.

#6 Kris Rosales, Mark Borboran, Adrian Wong
These are the guys that can get a 2nd round pick for Rain or Shine. Rosales may not be well-known but his defense and tenacity are well respected in the league. Borboran is still one of the most versatile role-players in the league. And Wong is the most valuable first-round selection of Rain or Shine in the 2019 PBA draft.

#5 Norbert Torres, Jewel Ponferada
Torres and Ponferada should have more establish value than the guys above because they are bigmen who are strong enough to match-up with the giants of the league. Both of them are also capable of hitting a three-point shot which is a crucial skill for a center.

#4 James Yap
In a way, the guys in the top 4 are close in value. There is a good chance that there are teams out there who will give up more for Yap than for Belga. But in terms of majority, I think Yap will be the last place in terms of a trade package. Yap is already 38 years old and really struggled last season in terms of efficiency, shooting 37% in the field and 31% from beyond the arc.

#3 Gabe Norwood
Gabe, together with Belga, has been the face of the Rain or Shine franchise. He is recognized as one, if not the best, lockdown defender in the league. With his name recognition and the respect that he has in the league, there should be a team out there who will give up a 1st round pick for him.

#2 Javee Mocon, Rey Nambatac
These two guys are the future of the Rain or Shine franchise. Mocon is the ultra-aggressive player who will fill-out the stat-sheet, especially rebounds. While Nambatac is the athletic guard who can shoot efficiently from beyond the arc. There should be more teams out there who will give up a 1st round pick and even more.

#1 Beau Belga
This is a close call between Belga and the guys at #2. But Belga's popularity will push more teams to give up more for him. Yes, inside the court, Mocon and Nambatac will provide better value but in trading, it is not all about what the players can bring in the court.
