Did Thirdy Ravena made a mistake of skipping the 2019 PBA draft because of the COVID-19?

Thirdy Ravena was the most hyped amateur Filipino player last year, other than Kai Sotto, because they were prepping him as the face of the 2019 PBA draft.

According to Thirdy, he chose not to join the draft to pursue his dream of playing Internationally. According to some reports last year, there are already clubs from Japan, Italy, New Zealand and Australia that showed interest.

In an interview with Spin.ph, he explained that he was not dodging the draft to make sure that he will go to the conglomerate that he wants to be. He just wants to give it a try.

The reasoning of Thirdy is sound. He has the right athleticism and physique to be able to play in foreign leagues. Although, he needs to put a lot of work into developing important skills in modern basketball.

I am talking about his three-point shooting and his playmaking. He was not a proven three-point shooter in his UAAP career and he was reliant on playmakers.

Unfortunately for Thirdy, the COVID-19 came and his dreams of having the right start to his International career may not happen.

With the presence of COVID-19, it is hard to see foreign countries opening their doors that easily to foreign players. Even though they will open their doors to foreign workers, there is a good chance that the league itself will be the ones that will avoid the risk.

Even personalities in the PBA like coach Leo Austria are suggesting that they will not do an import-conference this year because those imports will still need to undergo self-quarantine before being allowed to play.

So, there is a good chance that Thirdy may have wasted a year of his playing capacity.
