2020 PBA Trade Rumor Recall: Will the Beau Belga trade happen or not?

The PBA finally has a target date for a possible return. Let us continue our on-going series of articles wherein we will recall a trade rumor in the past that did not happen for each team. Again, this is only a recall of past trade gossips. These rumors are not present ones. So, do not expect them to happen or to be refuted anytime soon!

Rain or Shine will be our talking point in this article. They have changed a lot in their roster in the past few years. Although, it is worth pointing out that they have managed to maintain a core that can contend. Two pillars of their franchise today and in the past are Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga. The question now is, can they keep them until they retire?

In this Tweet, it did not specifically say that it was talking about Rain or Shine. So, let us examine the clues. First, we have a big three. So, three starting-caliber players who were recognized as the pillars of that team. Now, two of those should be traded already.

There are several big 3s in the past with one being traded. I am talking about Pingris-Yap-Simon, with Yap traded.

Only one fits the clues though. The big 3 of Jeff Chan-JR Quinahan-Beau Belga. Actually, some said that it was Chan-Lee-Belga.

So, it is pointing to Belga. Actually back in 2018, it was already being tackled in the national media. But Rain or Shine did their best to keep him.

WHY IT DID NOT HAPPEN?

I think Rain or Shine looks at Belga as someone that they can retire with the team because he was not only a pillar of their performance inside the court but also their image in the PBA universe. That could be the reason why they are willing to pay him, to retain him.

SO NOW WHAT?
I think, Belga's situation is an interesting test if independent teams can still be credible enough on the court and financially that they can still manage to retain for the majority of his career until they retire.
