PBA Trades: Is it a good decision to NOT allow trades, inside the bubble?

The JP Erram trade may end up as the biggest trade to happen this year because the PBA will not be allowing trades in the upcoming bubble tournament.

So, the line-ups that will be submitted last September 25, 2020, will be used for the entirety of the run of the team in the tournament.

Is this the right decision?

I think this is the correct path to take. If you think hard about it, you will realize that it is hard to come up with an acceptable reason against this decision.

While there are good positives in doing this. Let me give you three.

#1. Parity
Not allowing trades means Christian Standhardinger will remain with Northport for the entirety of the upcoming conference. That means the best player in the tournament, after several years, is not found on one of the three San Miguel Corporation teams. With that, we may have more teams with the acceptable potential of winning the championships.

#2 Avoid Awkwardness
Imagine the reaction of the players and teams that could be involved in a trade in the middle of the bubble tournament? Knowing that they are leaving in a single hotel. That they will be practicing in the same gyms and etc.

#3 More Hyped for 2021
The reality is, the bubble tournament will not need any additional noise brought by any trade because the conception of the tournament alone is already a big source of awareness and curiosity for the Filipinos. The 2021 season could be a different story as we will see it as a new beginning of the league and big trades will help a lot in maximizing the gains that I expect the league to get with this bubble tournament.
