2020 PBA Team Power Ranking: Is Phoenix a title contender now that Abueva is back?

As the league continues to travail this pandemic and the false-positive results are popping out, let us pray hard that the league will be able to finish this tournament.

One of the biggest results from the last weak was the first defeat of Ginebra. So, are they out of the race for the top spot?

#12 NLEX (#12 Previously)
NLEX can be a powerhouse as early as next season. Just imagine Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas running with two of the premium prospects projected for the upcoming draft. Their team is also looking very deep with the way coach Yeng handles his rotation.

#11 Blackwater (#11 Previously)
Even at 2-3, I still cannot treat the Elite as a legit contender for the title. Coach Nash Racela is showing us that he is a very good mentor. It helps a lot that they are maximizing the skills that they have in abundance like three-point shooting and versatility.

#10 Terra Firma (#10 Previously)
We need to talk about CJ Perez. The guy is killing it. He is currently averaging 25.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.0 steals and 45% FG per game. I cannot explain how can he score that much with that very good efficiency! He is playing in the zone every game. Unfortunately, he may not even be considered for the MVP award if Terra Firma fails to turn it around, soon.

#9 San Miguel (#8 Previously)
I am willing to bet that they will have a much deeper playoff run than three teams above them in this ranking. But it is hard for me to believe that they can actually win the championship without June Mar Fajardo and Terrence Romeo.

#8 Northport (#6 Previously)
They finally got their first win. Fortunately for them, it looks like we will be having a tight race for the playoffs. That means they will have more paths to enter the extravaganza. The problem is, they are now in a pretty deep hole. Can they dig themselves out?

#7 Alaska (#7 Previously)
I love the way Alaska is playing. Their ball screenplays and off-ball game are good to watch and learn from. Robbie Herndon is looking like a more valuable player than Chris Banchero for their team, which means they have made the right trade.

#6 Meralco (#5 Previously)
Aaron Black is an interesting rookie for the Bolts. Although, his arrival also means that they are nerfing the value of Baser Amer, John Pinto and even Bong Quinto. Although, we should observe the progress of Raymond Almazan. It seems like he is not 100% and it is affecting the performance of the team, badly.

#5 Magnolia (#4 Previously)
That victory against Ginebra was a big one. If they lose that one. Magnolia may have a hard time even catching-up on the playoffs. Their patented defense is slipping as they are currently 6th in terms of opponent scoring. They are hoping now that the good performance of Jackson Corpuz will push him to be the guy to help them on that end.

#4 Phoenix (#9 Previously)
Phoenix has the line-up to overcome its big hole in the middle. They have a big boost as Calvin Abueva is now allowed to play. I am not only talking about their performance in the court but even emotionally. The quartet of Abueva-Wright-Perkins-Chua can face any other quartet out there and I think they will do well.

#3 Rain or Shine (#3 Previously)
It is easy to dismiss Rain or Shine as just a boring playoff contender because they do not have a shiny toy at their disposal. But what they do on the court works and they have a very deep team. The arrival of Rey Nambatac "The Closer" may just be the last key for them to accomplish another title run.

#2 Ginebra (#2 Previously)
Their performance against Magnolia should be a good wake-up call as they shot pretty well, they won the rebounding battle and even got more assist. Prince Caperal and Japeth Aguilar are looking like the barometers of their team at this point because Caperal failed to hit a three-pointer and Japeth only shot 33% in the field.

#1 TNT (#1 Previously)
TNT is killing it. 13, 19, 19, 11 and 5. Those are their margin of victories in their first five games. Their offense is currently unstoppable at this point, hitting the most three-pointers per game and being the most efficient squad in the 2FG. With Pogoy and Parks at the top 5 of scoring, their opponents will be having a hard time deciding how to defend them.
