PBA Analysis: Is RR Pogoy the best three-point shooter in the league, today?

As TNT faced a lot of problems in their first PBA game this year, they need someone to takeover. Ray Parks was out, JP Erram was ejected and Troy Rosario graduated. Who did they call?

Arguably the streakiest scorer in the league, RR Pogoy. He finished with his career-high, 45 points, in 10/17 three-point shooting, with 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

Here is an amazing fact though, this is not the first time that RR connected on ten three-pointers. He already did it last year.

With these conquests by RR, it could be the best time to discuss if he is already the best three-point shooter in the league.

We cannot answer that by just looking at efficiency and three-pointers made per game because there are three types of three-pointers;

pull-up: The one taken off the dribble.
catch-and-shoot: The one taken when they are not moving and after catching it through a pass.
off-movement: The one taken whey they get the ball through a pass while moving.

Almost all well-known three-point shooters in the game are very good at hitting those three-pointers. I am talking about Marcio Lassiter, Stanley Pringle and Paul Lee.

If we look at their three-pointers made and 3FG%, Pogoy was better than Lee and Lassiter in 2019 with his 2.3 makes per game and 35%. Pringle though was better with his 2.4 makes and 37%.

But Pogoy's ability to erupt for double-digit makes from beyond the arc could be enough to move the needle towards him. That is not the way Pringle do things and out of the four of them, Pogoy was the only one who connected on ten three-pointers and he did it more than once.

As shown in their first game this season, his eruptions can carry an average team (they do not have Parks for the whole game and also missed Erram and Rosario), to a victory.
