PBA Playoff Scenarios: Ginebra may end up as the #8 seed instead of #1!

Three teams are already out of the playoff race as we buckle down to the last three days of games in the elimination round of the 2020 Philippine Cup of the PBA. 

Terrafirma Dyip, Northport Batang Pier and Blackwater Elite are mathematically incapable of reaching the necessary number of wins to go to the top 8.

Although, we do have a very tight race as seven of the nine teams still on the running may still end up as the eliminated team. 

Here is the current team-standing.

As you can see, there are still a lot of possibilities. Although, there are absolutes there right now. A win by TNT and Ginebra will assure them with a spot in the top 4 that will come with twice-to-beat-edge.

 

NLEX cannot afford to lose if it wants a clear path to the playoffs. Same scenario with Rain or Shine.

Now, the craziest scenario would be an eight-team tie out of all the playoff spots!

How can that happen?

Ginebra lose to Terrafirma.

Rain or Shine defeats Phoenix and TNT.

Phoenix wins against Blackwater.

Alaska, San Miguel, Meralco and Magnolia win their games!

If all of those things happen, the eight teams in the playoffs will end up with a 7-4 card.

So, TNT and Ginebra can still end up at the bottom of the playoffs. Ginebra lost to San Miguel and Magnolia by double-digits, which will not help their cause in the tiebreaker.
