PBA Trade Target Suggestion for SMB, Rain or Shine: Is CJ Perez enough for the Beermen

Four more teams ended their 2020 season after the quarterfinals of the Philippine Cup in the tournament bubble.

We will continue then our series of articles where we review the eliminated by pointing out the type of player that they should try to pursue in a trade.

In this edition, we will focus on San Miguel and Rain or Shine.

SAN MIGUEL
Even if you do not look at the numbers, it is pretty clear what the Beermen needs. They need a young superstar. Yes, this is in agreement with what coach Leo Austria said. So, if we consider that Junemar Fajardo and Terrence Romeo are the only players safe in any transaction. We can say that San Miguel can trade for any position.

So, pursuing CJ Perez is a good idea. The question is, what will be the package that they will give up? Also, is CJ Perez enough? If it is not enough, the best path for San Miguel to grab a good young piece could be to trade for a high pick in the draft (not top 2, maybe 3 to 5 pick). Then used their power to force the prospect that they want to fall to them. That way they may avoid the ire of the PBA universe.

RAIN OR SHINE
Rain or Shine started the bubble tournament pretty well but then they surged down. They ended up as the team that averaged the lowest number of points because of how slow their scheme was. It did help them become the best defensive team by the numbers. Unfortunately, their three-point shooting did not click as they ended up with the worst efficiency from beyond the arc.

So, Rain or Shine should search for a very good three-point shooter, no matter what the position is. Scanning the numbers, there are some good targets like Kevin Ferrer and Garvo Lanete of Northport.
