PBA Analysis: The Top 5 Most Surprising Player' Stats from the PBA Bubble!

Here is another good way to look back at the PBA bubble, where we saw Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel scrapped their way to a championship.

In this article, we will point out the five most interesting stats that we found in the database.

10.2 plus/minus of Kevin Alas
Plus/minus (+/-) indicates the difference in the score of the two teams when a player is inside the court. A positive number means the team of the player outscore that opponent by that number when that player is inside the court.

Alas recorded the highest plus/minus in the PBA bubble. It doesn't indicate though that he is a top 5 player in the league or even a top 25. What it is implying to us could be that Alas is maximizing his role in NLEX and that giving him more minutes will not hurt.

The main frontline of Phoenix is shooting 40% and better from beyond the arc
Shooting better than 40% from beyond the arc is an amazing feat. A bigman who is a consistent three-point shooting capacity is unique. So, a bigman who shoots better from beyond the arc is an amazingly unique thing. And for Phoenix, they have two!

46% 3FG of Prince Caperal
I am pretty sure nobody saw it coming that the bench center of Ginebra was actually a capable three-point shooter. Thanks to his outside shooting, the spacing of Ginebra was good enough that it was not that big of a problem in the playoffs.

6.7 assists of Calvin Abueva
We entered the PBA bubble, without assurance that Calvin will play. And when he left, he ended up as the guy that averaged the most assists per game. I think, it is not that shocking to say now that Abueva is a point guard. And he could be the best passing point guard in the league.

60% FG of Moala Tautuaa
Is Tautuaa underrated? Or is it the chemistry and skill versatility of the San Miguel Beermen? Tautuaa recorded his best points per game in the PBA bubble because he took over the role of Fajardo, who was injured. He did that and shot 60% in the field, also a career high.

I believed that it tells us a lot about how reliable the core players of San Miguel. They can really bring out the best of a center and I will not be shocked if that is also true with Fajardo.
