PBA Free-Agency: The first ever batch of UNRESTRICTED Free-Agency is COMING!

For the entire history of the PBA, it never gave permission to players the right to be unrestricted free-agents. In the past, if the contract of the player ends, their current team can maintain their right to matching any offer from another team by making a qualified offer.

That is the reason why Greg Slaughter's right is still with Ginebra. He cannot play with another team unless Ginebra will allow it.

That will end in 2021. As the rule of letting a player drafted in 2014 and beyond with at least seven-years playing career in the PBA, be an unrestricted free agent after the end of his contract.

It means that players drafted in 2013 and below will never experience becoming an unrestricted free-agent.

Take note though that it will not happen yet in the offseason for the 2021 season. It will take effect after the 2021 season.

So, this January to March, all the free-agents are still at the mercy of their current team.

At the end of the 2021 season, the first draft year that will experience it is 2014. It was the draft led by Stanley Pringle.

The players drafted in 2015 and above will follow soon, once they hit their seventh year of experience.

So, Stanley Pringle, Matthew Ganuelas-Rosser, Chris Banchero, Rodney Brondial, Anthony Semerad, Jake Pascual and etc. will have the ability to leave their current team, next season.
