PBA Analysis: Pingris-retirement will be good for Magnolia

Last year, a lot of Magnolia fans were sad because of the retirement of PJ Simon. It seems like, we will be having another one of the historical big 3 of the Purefoods franchise, hanging his playing shoes soon.

According to Marc Pingris, he is giving himself until March to decide if his body can still keep it up. He said that he knows that he is not getting any younger and that his body has suffered a lot of wear and tear.

So, what will happen to Magnolia if Pingris push through with his retirement?

I actually think that it will be a good development for their future. I mean, he will end up as a legend for the franchise. But in terms of their future, his retirement will open up the door to more enticing possibilities.

#1 there is of course the potential that his playing time will be given to Aris Dionisio. I am a big believer of Dionisio.

He is a unique breed of player. He combines elite rim protection and efficient three-point shooting. If you scour the entire league, you will conclude that all players with that combination are good ones.

Other than his playing time, I expect that with the retirement of Pingris, Magnolia will be making a move for another bigman.

Magnolia fans should hope big that their favorite team will go for someone who can stretch the floor. Three-point shooting has been their biggest need for a while.
