Meralco and Blackwater managed to avoid the eyes of the majority of the PBA universe as they decided to pass their trade on the same day when the league announced that Perez is already with the San Miguel Beermen.
Meralco traded Baser Amer for Mac Belo. Amer had been part of several trade rumors in the past. Finally, he was sent to a new team.
So, was the trade fair?
At first glance, it is. But at a much deeper look, Meralco clearly won this trade. From a simple supply and demand of the position, a forward like Belo is way more important than guards, who have the most number in the league.
In short, it is not fair. Just like the CJ Perez trade. The only difference is, this one is not lopsided.
TEAM ANALYSIS
Blackwater - Mac Belo for Baser Amer
Blackwater has an interesting core of forwards in Trollano, Belo and Daquioag. Unfortunately, they decided to unload Belo for a guard. They do need a much better guard play because Tolomia and Desiderio were not up to the task.
Grade: D
Meralco - Baser Amer for Mac Belo
Coach Norman Black did what he told the media after they got eliminated. They added more talent. Belo's talent is higher than that of Amer. By also trading Amer, Meralco opened more opportunities for Aaron Black and Trevis Jackson.
Belo will join a frontcourt of Cliff Hodge, Raymond Almazan and Reynel Hugnatan. Belo will be the most versatile offensive player.
Grade: A
