PBA Trade Analysis: BREAKING! TNT-NLEX-BWE deal, is it FAIR?

So, we are again faced with a big deal. Facing the need to shore up their team with the sabbatical of Ray Parks, TNT came up with this three-team deal.

The deal is basically composed of two trades:

Trade #1
NLEX trades: #4 pick
Blackwater trades: Maurice Shaw, Roi Sumang, Don Trollano, 2022 2nd round pick

Trade #2
Blackwater trades: #4 pick
TNT trades: Simon Enciso, David Semerad, 2023 1st, 2024 2nd TNT

Let us first tackle the first trade. So, for that #4 pick, Blackwater gave up a playoff quality starter in Don Trollano, a capable starter in Sumang, an old giant in Shaw and a valuable 2nd round pick.

Trollano alone could merit around 75% value of that #4 pick. Now, even if Sumang is a capable guard, he is still a guard and again, in terms of trade value, capable guards are next to zero because of the humungous supply in the Philippines.

Shaw, did not play up to the hype in the PBA bubble. But, he is still a giant. Together with the 2024 2nd, Sumang and Shaw can fill 15% of the value of that #4 pick.

Am I saying that Blackwater won the trade? I think so. Although, if we consider the fact that coach Yeng is a master in building up bigs, Shaw could be good one this year.

Trade #2
Blackwater trades: #4 pick
TNT trades: Simon Enciso, David Semerad, 2023 1st, 2024 2nd TNT

For trade #2, TNT traded a capable starter in Enciso, and a championship-caliber role player in David Semerad. They also added a 1st and a 2nd round pick.

Enciso is a wingman who is a volume scorer. Unfortunately, he is an inefficient one all throughout his PBA career. David Semerad is a capable versatile player on both ends but with injury problems. The two of them together may only compensate around 40% of the value of that #4 pick.

That 2023 1st is interesting because it is too far away. Giving the possibility that disaster struck for TNT and Blackwater will end up with a good pick.

The problem is, it is also too far away.

Add that 2nd round pick and I think it can only cater to around 40% of the value of that #4 pick.

For this trade, Blackwater was a clear loser.

Overall:
If you combine the trade, NLEX loss in terms of value in the first trade, TNT was a clear winner and Blackwater won the 1st trade and was a loser in the 2nd one.

So, I think, NLEX got more damaged in this one but I expect coach Yeng Guaio to overcome it with his coaching capabilities.

And TNT is the biggest winner. According to report, Mikey Williams is their target. And I think, he will meet their expectations.
