PBA Power Ranking of the Future: Ginebra, SMB or Magnolia is not #1!

Let us look over the future and rank all the twelve teams, five years from now. With their current collection of picks and players, without considering trades, how should they rack up against each other, five years from now?

#12 Blackwater Elite
Rey Suerte, the #2 selection in the 2019 Gilas draft, is the current best ticket of Elite to be something relevant, five years from now. Other than him, it is hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel.

#11 Phoenix Fuel Masters
It is good that Matthew Wright and Jason Perkins are only 34 years old by 2026. Nevertheless, they do not have any promising young pieces that we can trust. Also, Justin Chua and Chris Banchero could be thinking of retirement by that time.

#10 TNT Tropang Giga
If Ray Parks is still available for them, TNT could be at the top 5. Without him though, they only have 34 years old (by 2026), RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario. Even Mikey Williams will be 35 at that time and their much younger teammates do not have that potential to move the needles.

#9 NLEX Road Warriors
To be honest, from #9 to #5, is more of a subjective discussion. I will not argue with anyone who will have a different way of stacking them.

NLEX has a good future one-two-punch in Kiefer Ravena and Calvin Oftana. Although, I recognized the reality that Kiefer may actually push through with his rumored plan of playing overseas.

#7 Magnolia Hotshots
What I love about Magnolia is that Sangalang will only 35 by that time and Aris Dionisio will be 31. So, their frontline will be fine. Jalalon will be 34 but he is already on the move, as per rumors. Overall, the lack of a potential in-prime star is the reason why I put Magnolia in this place.

#8 Meralco Bolts
Meralco is so versatile that five years from now, they can still be versatile! Mac Belo, Alvin Pasaol, Bong Quinto and Aaron Black will still be 33 years old and younger by 2026! The issue though with Meralco will be their frontline. Almazan, Hodge, Baclao and of course Hugnatan are older than 37 by that time.

#6 Rain or Shine Elasto Painters
Rain or Shine's future is pretty stable with five good young players only 27 years old and younger today. I am talking about Santillan, Mocon, Nambatac, Wong and potentially one of Caracut and Asistio.

#5 San Miguel Beermen
In terms of star power, the Beermen will be fine because Terrence Romeo and CJ Perez will still be in-prime, five years from now. The problem will be their supporting cast. Of course, four of the death fives are likely to be retired by that time. Tautuaa and Fajardo will be 37. If SMB finds a young promising big, their ranking here will be better.

#4 Alaska Aces
Alaska is all about quantity. What makes them better than that of Rain or Shine is the fact that they have a trio of quality bigs who are 28 years old and younger in Ebona, Tratter and Adamos. Even Jeron Teng, Robbie Herndon and Maverick Ahanmisi will still be in their prime, during 2026. Alaska though will need to find a superstar from all their young players. Who will be your best bet?

By the way, they also hold the 2021 1st of Phoenix.

#3 Northport Batang Pier
I am still hoping that Northport will finally get serious about the PBA. They just drafted a 24 years old Jamie Malonzo. Robert Bolick is only 26. Their frontline will be stable with Onwubere and Rike still in their prime, five years from now.

In short, keeping this team could make Northport a legit title contender, three years from now. They only need to stop trading their good young players.

#2 Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel
Ginebra will still have a sure in-prime superstar in Scottie Thompson. Prince Caperal will still be a starting-caliber bigman. Arvin Tolentino may end up being a star-caliber starter. They also have three interesting young pieces in Kent Salado, Brian Enriquez, and Ken Holmqvist. And I also value the fact that their future 1st round picks are still intact.

#1 Terrafirma Dyip
The majority of the PBA fans hate this franchise. But the reality is, their future is clearly the brightest, with one condition.

They do not trade any of their first-round pick in the next five years. Joshua Munzon, Isaac Go, Roosevelt Adams are the trio that can be at the top. Then, they have a plethora of young bigs in Laput, Balagasay and Gabayni.

Please Terrafirma, stop running your future!
