PBA Power Ranking: The Top 10 TRADES of 2019!

How about looking back in 2019 and check the biggest trades that happened during that time! You will be amazed by how stacked the exchanges that happened during that time.

So, here are the top 10 trades in terms of impact to the league during 2019!

#10
Magnolia received: Jackson Corpuz
Dyip received: Aldrech Ramos

The trade totally brings down the number of stretch bigs that Magnolia had, to zero. They did receive a good off-the-ball weapon in Corpuz. But entering 2021, do you think Corpuz is much valuable than a healthy Ramos?

#9
Meralco received: Raymar Jose, Allein Maliksi

Blackwater received: Mike Tolomia, KG Canaleta, two 2nd round picks
The fact that the first version of this was rejected could have an impact on the future trades of the league. I am not actually shocked if it already impacted some of the most recents trades.

#8
Alaska received: Abu Tratter
Blackwater received: Carl Bryan Cruz

Is Blackwater the master of trading for injury-prone players? They did it in this one. They also gave Alaska a vital cog of their future.

#7
TNT received: Marion Magat, two 2nd round picks
Northport received: Michael Miranda, two 2nd round picks
NLEX received: Jericho Cruz, one 2nd round pick

This has a lot of moving parts. Magat was utilized by TNT in their trade for JP Erram. NLEX got a quality guard in Cruz and Northport got the #13 pick of the 2020 draft (the most recent one), which they traded for Balanza and the #24 pick of the same draft.

It is also interesting that TNT has kept the two 2nds that they got from Northport. Knowing that the upcoming two to three drafts could be loaded, those two picks could be valuable.

#6
Alaska received: Maverick Ahanmisi
Rain or Shine received: Ping Exciminiano and 2019 1st

Alaska got a quality guard in Ahanmisi. Although, he got more injured time than playing time at this point. On the other hand, Rain or Shine got the #5 pick of the 2019 draft and was lucky to be part of the Gilas draft.

#5
Alaska received: Rodney Brondial and Robbie Herndon
Magnolia received: Chris Banchero

I still argue that Alaska should have gotten more in this trade. Although, they deserved all the credits in bringing out the best of Herndon, a capable starter now, and Brondial, a quality rotation big.

On the other hand, Magnolia used Banchero in the Calvin Abueva trade. According to the camp of Phoenix, they were a big fan of Banchero. So, if this trade did not happen, there is a good chance that the Abueva trade may have not been done.

#4
San Miguel received: Moala Tautuaa
Northport received: Christian Standhardinger

In terms of the sum of talent, I think this trade tops every exchange on this list. But the impact of this one on the hierarchy of the league was minimal because we are talking about two giants in the same range of value, who just switched places.

#3
Meralco received: Raymond Almazan
Rain or Shine received: 2019 1st and 2021 1st

Meralco got the giant that they have been needing during their entire history. I still think that it is a big what-if if Almazan was healthy during the Governors' Cup finals against Ginebra.

Rain or Shine is now in possession of a 1st round pick in a potential league-changing 2021 draft.

#2
Blackwater received: 2021 1st, Anthony Semerad, Don Trollano
TNT received: Ray Parks

I do not think TNT reached the finals of the Governors' Cup without Ray Parks. Also, if this trade did not happen, where could Parks be playing right now? Trollano is now with NLEX. That 2021 1st from SMB may turn out to be valuable.

#1
Ginebra received: Stanley Pringle
Northport received: Sol Mercado, Jervy Cruz, Kevin Ferrer

Imagine if Ginebra did not do this trade? Could they have succeeded in grabbing the last two available championships of the PBA? I will not bet on that as LA Tenorio was already slowing down and Greg went on sabbatical.

On the other hand, we saw that Ferrer is not a bust and may still find a way to be a star in the league.
