Early tomorrow, our Gilas national team will compete against the national team of Serbia to try and steal one of the four remaining available spots to the Tokyo Olympics.
This version of Gilas has not incurred a single defeat and they are currently the apples of the eyes of the millions of basketball fans of the country.
The attention that they have gotten also includes those from the other International basketball leagues, like Japan B League.
And if the rumors are true, the PBA is now worried about it. The rumors state that teams from International leagues are now trying to contact the camps of the Gilas players.
Imagine if Gilas again managed to have an awesome performance against Serbia and the Dominican Republic?
It will further increase the number of competition now for this young and upcoming Filipino ballers. Let us be mindful that most of the PBA superstars today are much nearer to their retirement than another appearance in Gilas.
A good performance by Gilas will also further question the need for PBA players. If that happens, it will also equate to questioning the quality of the league.
How come amateur players did this when professional players cannot?
So, I was not shocked with the silence of the PBA about the current run of Gilas. Of course, they are not praying that Gilas fails.
Maybe, they are only hoping for it.
