PBA Analysis: San Miguel made a mistake on their choice of import?

One of the most interesting decisions in terms of choosing import this year was that of TNT. They decided to let NLEX sign their former import, who is a legit NBA veteran, KJ McDaniels.

On the other hand, San Miguel Beermen decided to sign a veteran International import instead of going for a big name.

So, did NLEX and San Miguel make the right decisions?

NLEX - KJ McDaniels
KJ has 148 NBA games under his belt and he averaged 5.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.6 assist, 41% FG and 29% 3FG per game.

In his stint with TNT Tropang Giga, KJ produced 35.1 points, 13.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.4 steals, 3.4 blocks, 49% FG and 36% 3FG per game.

We expect him to be a monster again. And I think a monstrous producer is the type of import that NLEX needs.

Knowing how great coach Yeng Guiao is in maximizing his team, I can actually see how NLEX can become a contender this year.

San Miguel - Brandon Brown
Brandon is a veteran import in KBL, the professional league in Korea. In his last stint there, he manufactured 15.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.5 steals and 35% 3FG per game.

He may not be a monstrous import but I also do not think San Miguel is in need of a monster. Maybe, an efficient shooter who can defend very well is what SMB needs in claiming the championship.
