PBA Analysis: Is it time to add teams in the PBA?

This is easily one of the most complicated questions in the entire PBA universe. In terms of numbers, there should be more fans who are in favor of adding teams.

But, those who are not in favor have a strong argument against it. Why should they add a team if they currently have three franchisees who are not really looking to win the championship?

But, the agreement of the PBA and the East Asia Super League could be a game-changer for the future of the league.

EASL is a regional tournament that will feature a home-and-away format. PBA teams will be competing against teams from Japan B League, Korean Basketball League, Chinese Taipei League and a seeded team from China.

With this new venue of the competition, the marketing reach of the PBA increases by several levels. This then should allure even the big conglomerates to consider joining the PBA.

And for the PBA, adding two teams will actually improve the overall balance of the league. It will give more opportunities for players to show if they can be a star in basketball.

Although, the key here for the PBA universe is to find two legitimate teams, at the least. And if those big conglomerates want to join, then they will surely try hard to win the championship.

One company that was rumored already is Cobra Energy Drink. And knowing their current standing in the sports energy market, I actually think that they can be a good addition to the league.
