PBA Free Agency: Can Ginebra keep Prince Caperal?

The decision of the PBA to stop automatic renewal of contracts this 2022 has created the deepest Unrestricted Free Agency class ever in the first three months of the year.

This could also be the reason why we have not heard a trade in the past few weeks. All teams could be focusing on free agency.

Although, let me just say that the PBA continues to be an underwhelming league as they cannot even provide an official list of Unrestricted Free Agents.

Fortunately, we have our insiders and one of the guys that could be an Unrestricted Free Agency right now is Prince Caperal.

I think, Caperal is in a very tricky situation.

Both Japeth Aguilar and Christian Standhardinger just signed contract extensions. That means Caperal better not crave a starting spot in the next few years because Japeth and Stand will be there.

So, if Prince will sign with Ginebra, he will be signing to be a bench-bigman for several years, minimum. If we consider the reality that there are several young bigman in the farm teams of SMC, I do not think Caperal will even have a chance to be a starter.

And that is pretty sad for Prince because he is a very talented bigman. A capable shooter who is willing to bang bodies on defense.

Add the reality that Prince can now go straight to Magnolia Hotshots, the sister team of Ginebra, and potentially be a starter for another championship contender. His partnership with Ian Sangalang will be really good.
