PBA Controversy: Alaska's goodbye may lead to the end of the PBA?

In an out-of-the-blue situation, the Alaska Aces decided to announce to the entire PBA universe that they are leaving the league by the end of the tournament.

There is something behind the scene that pushed Alaska into fulfilling the long-rumored exit of their franchise.

I will not be shocked if it is connected to the result of the Unrestricted Free Agency and the continued disrespect to some of the rules in the league like salary cap and maximum contract for a player.

This now begs the question, what happens now to the million Alaska fans? How will they react to this news?

I will not be shocked if a portion of them will choose violence and throw shades to the current behind-the-scene of the league.

The departure of Alaska also further weakens the stance of the Independent teams. Alaska has been the foundation of hope in the last few years.

Without them, there is a good chance that a lot of fans will lose hope. And if our count is correct, Alaska still holds a good portion of the PBA fanbase.

PBA may treat this as just a usual process of a franchise. But at the current state of the league, this Alaska exit may actually start something more disastrous.

Fans losing interest and hope.

Will the PBA realize what is wrong before it is too late?

I hope so.

Filipinos deserve a good basketball league. And soon, Filipinos will realize that it is not the PBA.

  1. I think it is about time to end too commercialism to the league. Better reformat to regional or home-and-away league not the one we have now which is one-roof-league. I guess Philippines is the only one who has the weirdiest team name in the world, ex. "Manok Hotshots" o "Pambansang Manok". Back in 1990s there was a team nicknamed " Oodles Noodles". Better to have a team like Makati, Quezon City, Marikina... of course should be supported financially by a company or business entities.
