I am pretty sure you have heard the news. Coach Chot Reyes of TNT Tropang Giga, is back as the head coach of the Gilas Pilipinas.
As per the news, coach Tab Baldwin decided to step down from his role to focus on the upcoming UAAP season.
Instead of focusing on the truthfulness of the reason for replacing coach Tab, I would rather focus on the most important question.
Who is the best coach for Gilas? Remember that the 2023 FIBA World Cup will happen here in the Philippines. So, it is a must that we bring the best team possible.
And I think it is actually a much harder question than people want it to acknowledge. People over simplify things and will tell you that coach Tab is the better choice knowing his accomplishment, especially last year.
But, we also should not forget about the reality that coach Chot will have a much better chance of forming the most talented line-up possible.
Coach Tab's history tells us that he has not garnered that much fanfare that players and executive will just say yes to what he wants.
On the other hand, coach Chot is well respected. He will surely have a much easier time of bringing the most talented group, possible.
Although, if we also consider the other aspects, I think coach Tab is still the better choice. MVP group could have provided the needed help in bringing the talent to Gilas.
