PBA Trade Analysis: Phoenix won a trade with NLEX!

In another shocker, this month, NLEX Road Warriors and Phoenix SUper LPG consummated a trade. Phoenix sent  Justin Chua to NLEX for Kris Porter, 2022 1s round pick and 2021 2nd round pick.

When this was first announced, a lot of fans quickly concluded that Phoenix lost the trade because they gave up the best player.

Is that the case?

The reality is, Chua did have a great 2020 season where he averaged 11.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 blocks per game.

After this, Chua just played like your usual stretch bigman. Yes, stretch bigman is important in this modern era. But, that should not result in the over-valuation of Justin.

In exchange for a modern bigman that is providing less than 20 minutes per game, they now get a young bigman that can actually become the next Chua, a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick.

That is actually a good deal for Phoenix!

That 1st round pick will not be for this upcoming draft but the next one which we can assume to be happening next year.

That draft is looking to be deep and knowing that we are talking about NLEX here, that should be a pick from #4 to #8.

Then a 2nd round pick in this upcoming draft which will also be deep.

If I am going to put value, that 1st round pick should be equitable to 80% of the value of Chua already. Then the 2nd round pick should be equal to around 20% of Chua's value.

So, Porter was a bonus in my eyes for Phoenix.
