PBA Trade Rumors: Top Trade Assets of SMB, Magnolia, Phoenix, Meralco

All systems go for the upcoming return of the Philippine Basketball Association this Friday, February 11, 2022.

Before we reach that point, let us first rundown the top trade assets of each team. When we say top trade asset, I am talking about the player that will give the team the best net value in a fair exchange.

San Miguel - Vic Manuel
San Miguel does not need to have three elite bigmen. That is just too much and having three actually suppresses the value of each one because you cannot play them together. So, trading him actually for a forward will not hurt the frontline of SMB at all and will empower their forward position, by a lot.

Magnolia - Mark Barroca
Let me praise Magnolia for their ability to maximize their roster. Barroca is playing a big role for the Hotshots but he is actually struggling while Jio Jalalon is having a good year. Is it finally the time to maximize Barroca and let Jio be the main point guard?

Phoenix - Matthew Wright
If they feel like the chances of keeping Wright is very low, then it is much better for them to give him up and get something in return. Or else they will suffer the same thing with what transpired from the free agency of Chris Banchero. Yes, a hard pill to swallow but they may need to act fast.

Meralco - Allein Maliksi
In terms of quantity, Meralco is very deep. With the addition of a good scorer in Chris Banchero, Meralco may want to unload one of their other scorer to get another type of player that will fit better. Like, Maliksi in exchange for a forward or a bigman that defends well.
