PBA Controversy: Alaska's coach Cariaso or Phoenix' coach Topex, who is right?

The issue about the unwritten rules in basketball arise again into the spotlight as coach Jeff Cariaso showed displeasure to the late seconds' timeout of coach Topex and he refused to do the traditional handshake.

It is quite fascinating that we have two coaches here who were under coach Tim Cone during their playing years and we all know that coach Tim is the biggest proponent of this unwritten rule.

Coach Jeff said that he expected more from coach Topex in terms of honoring the so-called unwritten rule. While coach Topex explained that it was all about the quotient.

So, which side is closer to what is right?

If we think about it, that unwritten rule was embraced during the times when the quotient system is not yet applied.

Thus, that alone should give the reason why teams should be allowed now to continue to play for the difference in the score.

And also, this is competition. Isn't it also an unwritten rule that players should play to compete? So, if a team decided not to do their work up to the last second, they are also violating an unwritten rule.

Lastly, who really benefits from following that rule? The winner of that game or the loser? And who usually cries foul? The loser.

If they do not want to be humiliated, they need to play better. As simple as that.
