PBA Predictions: Can San Miguel and Ginebra survive?

The playoff bracket for the 2021 PBA Governors' Cup is almost done. What is very interesting in this upcoming quarterfinals is that both the Beermen and Ginebra are with a twice-to-beat disadvantage.

Can the two powerhouses, reach the semifinals?

TNT Tropang Giga  VS Barangay Ginebra San Miguel
X FACTORS
Three-point shooting
Mikey Williams
Ginebra's local players scoring

Barangay Ginebra started the tournament very hot from beyond the arc but in their last several games, they have slowed down. They will need that shooting against TNT because TNT has superb rim protection.

Mikey is the local player in this match that can win a game by getting into the zone. On the other hand, Ginebra's local players are having a hard time of being consistent in putting up points. If Brownlee fails to get enough support, there is no way Ginebra can win.

Prediction
TNT is currently a top 3 defense in this tournament and Ginebra's offense is not that consistent for anyone to rely on them. So, TNT is my pick in this one and I do not expect Ginebra to even win the first game.

Meralco Bolts VS San Miguel Beermen
X FACTORS
Shabazz Muhammad
Fastbreak scoring
Rebounding

Of course, everyone is familiar with what Shabazz did to Meralco Bolts in their game in the elimination round. If he can repeat that for two games, SMB has a big chance of surviving the twice-to-beat edge of Meralco.

San Miguel is the top fastbreak scoring team in this tournament and they may want to continue doing that to overwhelm Meralco.

Lastly, SMB is also the top rebounding team this year. But, Meralco is also net positive in rebounding averages. So, rebounds will be a crucial determinant in this series.

Prediction
This is a hard one to predict. The talent of San Miguel still overwhelms Meralco by a lot. Nevertheless, I actually think that Meralco has the personnel to slow down Shabazz and that San Miguel will have a hard time playing big against Meralco to control the rebound.

So, I am going with Meralco for this one.
