PBA Power Ranking: Most Improved Player Top 5 Candidates

We have a close Most Valuable Player race this year but I think the Most Improved Player award is still a harder one to decide on. To be clear, I take the award as literally as possible. This is about the guy that showed the most amount of improvements in his game.

Here are my top 5 candidates.

#5 Kib Montalbo

I did not anticipate that Kib will become an important part of a championship team in his second year in the PBA. Kib showcased an overall improvement in his game, especially on the defensive end.

#4 Yousif Taha

There is something about Danny Ildefonso in pushing bigmen into a much higher level. Taha is the latest example as he averaged 11.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. The guy exhibited post moves and better reads in making the right passes.

#3 Robert Bollick

Robert had a very good rookie season but in his second season in the league, Robert reached a much different level. In this Governors' Cup, he was #1 in terms of Locale scoring and passing. Yes, he put up the highest points per game and assists per game out of all the Pinoys!

#2 Juami Tiongson

Juami showed this tournament how three-point shooting can really change the level of impact of a player. Tiongson averaged more than 2.4 three-pointers per game with better than 36% efficiency this season. With his three-point shooting, his playmaking and overall scoring became better.

#1 Scottie Thompson

I remember just two years ago, I and a lot of fans are questioning its stagnant play of Scottie. Finally, he found the right shooting form and with better focus and preparation, he became one of the most complete guards ever to play in the PBA. To simplify why he is my Most Improved Player, he is now a legit MVP contender and last time, he was not even part of the Mythical first team.
