2023 PBA Mock Draft 1.0: Historical deep draft?

Let us all hope that the upcoming draft will be much nearer to its potential depth. Using the 2022 season's team ranking, here is our mock draft.

#1 Blackwater - one of Dwight Ramos / Kobe Paras / Thirdy Ravena / Justine Baltazar

The safe assumption for now is that one of the blue chip prospects above will join the draft next year. But the chances that none of them is actually very high but the possibility that all of them will be there is also real.

#2 Terrafirma - Zavier Lucero

Lucero is on the level of the guys in the #1 pick but I expect him to be targeted by the San Miguel Corporation. Although, the chance that he will also choose International league is real. Specially with world-level athleticism.

#3 NLEX (from Converge) - Sedrick Barefield

Let us hope that Sedrick is still considering the PBA after the ugly decision of the PBA about his eligibility. I still think that his potential to become a top 5 PBA player is high.

#4 Phoenix - Brandon Bates

I am having a hard time searching for viable giants that could potentially join the upcoming draft. Bates could be the most interesting one, knowing that he is now playing in a professional league in Australia.

#5 Rain or Shine - Deschon Winston

A very interesting prospect because of his amazing blend of destructive defense and explosive offense. He almost joined this year's draft. Let us hope that the desire will still be there next year.

#6 Northport - Lawrence Domingo

I thought he will already join this year's draft. Unfortunately, he did not push through and we do not have a news about his basketball career. If he joins, I expect teams connected to SMC to pursue him.

#7 Phoenix (from NLEX) - Will Gozum

I expect Phoenix to target a center in the upcoming draft and Gozum could be the best option at this point of the draft.

#8 Ginebra - Frank Yu

I still think that the point guard position is the most realistic target for Ginebra. Although, they went for a wing this year. Yu is a logical target because he is from Letran and LA Tenorio is very familiar with him.

#9 Terrafirma (from SMB) - Justin Gutang

Another guy who we expected to be part of the last year's draft but decided to back out. He can still be a 1st round pick in this draft but not as sure as 2022.

#10 Meralco - James Canlas

James also considered joining this year's draft but decided to play out his eligibility with San Beda. He has a chance to further enhance his draft stock and I expect teams connected to the MVP group to pursue him.

#11 Blackwater (from TNT) - Ethan Alvano

I am not sure if Ethan will be as highly regarded as Sedrick but the guy has a good resume too and has shown high level of skills. He could be an under-the-radar target in the upcoming draft.

#12 Magnolia - CJ Lane

According to a Youtuber, CJ was pursuing his required documents last year. Unfortunately, he did not show up in the draft. He is 6'10 and with the shallow pool of giants in the next few years, he could be highly regarded.
