PBA Controversy: PBA is very strict in following their rules and requirements! Right?

Rules and laws are made to attain certain goals and to be organized in a way that is acceptable to the majority.

Sometimes we want those in power to be strict about the rules. Sometimes, we see an obvious path of understanding that bending the rules should be fine.

So, this case of Sedrick Barefield is looking like another blackeye to the PBA.

Sedrick failed to have a physical copy of a certificate of authenticity of his passport. A required documents for Fil-Foreigners in the draft.

PBA decided to slash the name of Sedrick because of it. even though Sedrick should have gotten one unfortunately the Philippine consulate in the US are close for a few days due to Covid outbreak.

There is that very obvious reason to bend the rule. It could have been delivered but a virus that I am pretty sure the PBA did not foresee when they are crafting the rules postponed it.

One thing that the PBA has failed to realize is that fans were not happy with their decision.

This draft is already shallow and now they have taken out the most interesting piece of it. An NBA G League veteran!

It seems like the PBA wants to show that they are a rule-abiding league but nobody is buying that because the PBA universe is well aware of how useless the Maximum Salary Contract rule is.

Actually, Greg Slaughter just indirectly stated that he had a contract in the past from Barangay Ginebra that paid him a monthly salary higher than the maximum. Northport's manager's statement indirectly confirmed it too!

While the other leagues are eating up the talent from the Philippines by making it easier for them to join, here is the PBA who fails to see what is the best for the league and continue to shoo away star talents!

Do you expect Sedrick to join next year? I am not. Jason Brickman had the same case last year and Sedrick has a better resume. I expect one International league to scoop him up soon and the PBA will again be left with nothing.
