PBA Analysis: Did Meralco found the right guy to lead them to the championship?

Remember the Alaska Aces? Arguably the most respected franchise in the history of the league. They won their last championship in the 2013 Commissioner's Cup.

Do you remember their head coach?

Yes. Coach Luigi Trillo. That was not only the last crown of Alaska. It was the first one that they won with a head coach not named coach Tim Cone.

Surprisingly, after his stint in Alaska, coach Luigi was not given another chance as the top guy in the PBA. And then, an opportunity arrived and coach Luigi is thriving.

He is currently 5-1 as the substitute quarterback of Meralco after coach Norman Black took a leave of absence. In that span, he recorded two victories against Ginebra and San Miguel.

In his stint, defense was his biggest card. Their only defeat in that span was against Magnolia, who was the only team that managed to score over 90 points against them.

Offensively, their passing had been praised by analysts and commentators. In all their games under coach Luigi, Meralco recorded more assists than their opponent.

A good sign of not only their offense but also their defense. And with two victories against Ginebra already, it seems like coach Luigi is a much harder puzzle for coach Tim Cone.

And that could be enough for Meralco to finally get a playoff series victory against BGSM.
