PBA Analysis: Ginebra cannot win the championship without Justin Brownlee?

I think your first reaction to the title is that I am overreacting with their recent back-to-back defeats at the hand of the MVP squads, Meralco Bolts and TNT Tropang Giga.

I am actually not. Although, those two games also shows clearly the weakness that they managed to hide with Justin Brownlee there.

I am talking about their dominance in terms of assists. On both games, Ginebra registered a lower number of assists.

If we look back at the 2022 Governors' Cup, Ginebra averaged 24.6 per game and give up 20.1 per game. That is +4.5 advantage.

Other than passing, their more obvious problem is their three-point shooting. I mean, we have been vocal about this weakness by Ginebra for the entire coach Tim Cone era.

For this tournament, the problem is more obvious. They are currently 10th in terms of efficiency at 28.4% and last in terms of makes at 7.2.

In the Governors' Cup, Ginebra was actually the most efficient three-point shooting team in the entire league! Brownlee is the biggest reason.

Now, they are almost at the bottom and the effect on their entire scheme is pretty obvious. They are defended much easier.

Fortunately, coach Tim Cone will return from his two-weeks study in the NBA. Ginebra fans should hope that he will bring solutions to the problems.

If not, at least Justin will be back already in the next tournament.
