PBA Free Agency: Power ranking the 2022 Unrestricted Free Agents signings!

The beginning of the unrestricted free agency was met with a lot of question marks as all the free agents ended up signing with an SMC or an MVP team.

That is a pretty clear indication that the free agency system needs to have some tweaks for the betterment of the league.

Nevertheless, all the signings are already in the bag and we already saw them for a lot of games. It is time to give our initial ranking!

#6 Kyle Pascual - Meralco
Meralco ended up with two signings and Kyle was the last one. Kyle is a role player in the center position. Knowing the need of Meralco for a center, this was a fine addition but the impact is not that much.

#5 Rodney Brondial - San Miguel
Brondial is getting a lot of minutes in this Philippine Cup because of the injury to Vic Manuel. He is actually putting up good numbers and seems to be a good fit with San Miguel. But in terms of impact, I do not think he move the needle that much.

#4 Chris Banchero -Meralco
Banchero is easily the best player in this list but why did he end up in the lower half of this ranking? Because after playing his best five game stretch in Phoenix, he suddenly ended up as a back-up in Meralco. His minutes is still very high at 25.9 per game but his averages now are very poor at 8.5 points, 39% FG, 33% 3FG, 2.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

#3 Matthew Ganuelas-Rosser - TNT
Matthew returned to his home, TNT. If we look at his stats, it is disgusting. He is averaging 2.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 15 minutes per game. But, the advance stats print a +30 net rating for him! He is the type of forward that they badly needed and the advance stats is showing that he is doing an excellent job!

#2 Nard Pinto - Ginebra
Nard's number in Meralco was actually better than in Ginebra. But, there is a good argument that he played an important role in the 2022 Governors' Cup conquest of Ginebra. So, I think is deserving of this high rank.

#1 Jericho Cruz - San Miguel
I was actually very critical of this signing knowing the depth of San Miguel in their guard rotation. But SMB suffered two injuries to two star guards and that opened the door for Jericho to takeover. And he did what he needed to do. I do not think SMB is battling at the top of the standings right now if Jericho was not signed.
