Gilas Pilipinas Highlights: Three lessons in another defeat against Lebanon

That game against Lebanon was wild and entertaining. First things first, those Lebanese fans are great. They are as hot as the Filipino fans!

Unfortunately, we suffered another defeat. Fortunately, it was a defeat that is not embarrassing. Although, it is still frustrating because Gilas was obviously the more talented team.

Here are the three important lessons from that game.

#1. Jordan Clarkson as our naturalized player is the right decision
If the SBP was telling the truth that they have exhausted every path to try and get the approval of FIBA in allowing JC as a local player, then making him our naturalized player is the right call.

He was noticeably the best player in the court. Although, it is also clear that he is not going all out because of the risk of having an injury.

#2 We need shooters
I admire the courage of Japeth in taking that three-point shot in the dying seconds of the game. I will not question the decision but instead emphasize that in the current system of the team, it is pretty obvious that we need at least four acceptable three-point shooters in the court, everytime. Unfortunately for the Philippines, we do not have that many options yet in our frontline.

#3. We need a full-time coach
If we cannot get a new coach, at the very least give us a full-time coach. It is true that coach Chot chose Gilas over the Finals but it was also obvious that he was in sync with his team. He was the one who play down the importance of this game and look at it as a learning experience for the team but if you look at his rotation, he actually did not distribute the minutes well enough to provide that experience to the maximum number of players.
