PBA Draft Rumor: San Miguel Corp. has reserved this NBA G-League veteran for the 2023 PBA Draft?

When you have the credential that qualifies you to work in a much better place but you decided to go home to your home country and work in a weaker league but they decided to disallow you from entering because they do not want to be logical, what will you do?

The usual answer is of course to just go and work in a much better place who will pay you higher. That is not the case for Sedrick Barefield.

Barefield was a legit NBA G-League player who was not allowed by the PBA just because a letter from the US embassy was not delivered on time even though it was a fact that it was due to a lockdown in the embassy cause by COVID-19.

So, I expected Sedrick to pivot right away and play for another league. Months passed by and Sedrick was not signed by a Japan B League team, a KBL team and even a European team.

Of course, it is not likely that he will stop playing professional basketball.

My assumption now could be that a PBA conglomerated could have talked to him about the upcoming PBA draft and may have promised him that they will get him, no matter what.

I think, that conglomerate will be the San Miguel Corporation because of the connection of the Fil-Am Nation Select to Alex Cabagnot, a legend of the San Miguel Beermen.

Looking back at the last draft, there can even be a chance that the PBA did not allow Sedrick's entry because he was being considered by Blackwater, the rumored farm team of their rival conglomerate, for the #1 pick.

Right now, the rumored farm teams of SMC are in good position to get a high pick which will be needed to draft Sedrick.

Ginebra may want to find a replacement of Pringle soon. Barefield could be perfect.
