PBA Power Ranking: Top 3 Biggest snubs in the Gilas pool for the 4th FIBA Asian Qualifiers window

The Gilas pool for the upcoming window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifier is finally out! If you are not aware, here is the list.

Just to clarify, that list is only applicable for the upcoming window and not for the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Even though the list was reasonable overall, I still think that these three players deserved some consideration.

Calvin Abueva
Yes, Calvin is not young anymore but just last season, he was an MVP candidate. If we scan the pool, it is also lacks the player-archetype of an Abueva. Someone who will bring hardwork to the court.

Calvin is undersize to play the 4 in the International ball but he has the skill set to play the wing and could have bring power that the position lacks.

Tyler Tio
The biggest component of the dribble-drive offense is the initiating ballhandler like Jordan Clarkson and Kiefer Ravena. The foundation though is the level of three point shooting of the squad.

Tio was arguably the best off-the-ball shooter in this Philippine Cup and he ended up with a mind-blowing 49% efficiency. And that comes with legit volume. Tio is a sniper and our national team needs snipers.

Aris Dionisio

I am also shocked that SBP forgot about Dionisio. There is a good argument that he is already the most complete 3-and-D player in the league. He has a top 10 efficiency from beyond the arc this Philippine Cup.

He can defend multiple positions including point guards. He can also protect the rim. Yes, he is not a star but he is easily one of the best role players in the league.
