PBA Controversy: No trading of the #1 pick rule is a JOKE?

To show the public that they are looking into this ongoing barrage of farm team acquisition of top picks, the PBA crafted the rule that the #1 pick cannot be traded.

Actually, they never brought out the entire specifics of the rule. Actually, PBA has never put out a document containing all of their rules. I wonder why.

Going back, what I can conclude from all the interviews and statements about the rule is that the team that will have the #1 pick at the end of the tournament, cannot trade it.

But, nothing was said when the pick is already made. Thus, Blackwater can easily trade Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, just a tournament after drafting him.

Now, what is the point of the rule then?

San Miguel Corporation is as guilty as MVP in maintaining farm teams but at the very least, they will let the top pick marinate with the farm team and sustain a little bit of honor to the rule of not trading the #1 pick.

But as we just saw, that rule is actually a joke. Yes, the right for the #1 pick cannot be traded but the moment it is utilize, that player can already be traded.

It only postpones the inevitable harvesting of the high-potential player but it will not stop it. Now that this is proven to the public, what can the league do?

The first thing that they need to do is to recognize it. They should recognize that the current rule is a joke and it needs to be adjusted.
