PBA Team Power Ranking 2.0: Bay Area Dragon is NOT #1!

We have a very entertaining first week of the Commissioner's Cup. All hints are pointing to an unpredictable tournament.

So, here is my updated power ranking.

Terrafirma and Blackwater will not be part of ranking because this is about winning the crown. Northport will be part of it because of the strength of their line-up in comparison the field.

#11 Phoenix

Unfortunately for Phoenix, they lost their star player and now they are also missing a lot of other core players because of various reasons.

#10 NLEX

Even with their early victory against Rain or Shine, it is hard to trust them because coach Yeng Guiao is not at the helm and they do not have Calvin Oftana.

#9 Northport

Just like in the Philippine Cup, Northport has a good start to this campaign. Bay Area was dominant and Northport managed to almost get the W even though Prince Ibeh was struggling. It seems like Arvin Tolentino could be better than what I expected.

#8 Rain or Shine

With coach Yeng Guiao as their coach, it is time to take Rain or Shine seriously again. Their import is looking like a good fit.

#7 Magnolia

They are the SMC team with the longest title drought and yet they decided to keep it intact. I am also skeptical of their import.

#6 Converge

I was impressed with their first game. If they can really master the super fast pace scheme, they can give the elite teams, a run for their money.

#5 Meralco

Even the other teams are taking notice of what they saw in the import of Bolts during the tune-up games. Is he for real?

#4 TNT

In the long-run, trading for Calvin Oftana will surely be a good thing. But right now, I think their Frontline depth is worse and that is one of the things that San Miguel exploited in the Finals.

#3 San Miguel

Import conference will be very different from the Philippine Cup. If Thomas Robinson can dominate in the PBA, then SMB should be higher in this ranking. But I wonder if the absence of a consistent stretch big will hurt them. Nevertheless, I can accept any order of the these top 3.

#2 Bay Area

Northport gave them the Pinoy basketball that we are familiar with and they struggled. Myles Powell though is still unstoppable and I think their big import can actually be a bigger problem because of the size.

#1 Ginebra

I think Malonzo is legit. So, adding him in the current roster of Ginebra will fill a lot of holes in their rotation. I think they have the most complete line-up in this tournament.
