PBA Trade Controversy: Ginebra trade for Malonzo is NOT FAIR. Ask coach Tim Cone.

Who is the current face of the Barangay Ginebra franchise? Of course, it is the current Most Valuable Player of the league, Scottie Thompson.

He is only 29 years old and we all assume that the Ginebra team will be fitted according to his skillset for the next few years.

That may not be the case. As coach Tim Cone agreed with my belief that Jamie Malonzo is the future of the PBA with his statements.

He said that they will eventually build a team around him. He said that to a sophomore player when they currently have the most star-studded line-up in the league.

So, Ginebra got a player that they can build around in the future in exchange of a young stud, two bench warmers and a late 1st round pick.

That is not the price of a player that the coach of the most star-studded club in the country is willing to build the team around him in the future.

Ginebra got their future main man without giving up one of their top 4 players. That is insane!

It seems like coach Tim Cone is already settled with the fact that a portion of his championship haul will always be tainted because he got it by doing things that disrespect the spirit of fair competition.
