There is no question that Phoenix is currently the team with the biggest turmoil because of the financial situation of the company.
I mean, Terrafirma should actually be the team that has the biggest problem but we know that they are actually with losing almost every game in the last several months.
Phoenix is different though. After the management gave them assurance that they are not going anywhere, they erupted for four straight wins.
The question is, is this the evidence that they are a legit contender in this conference or the management succeeded in tricking them to play hard and improve their trade value?
I mean, acting as a farm team will give a lot of financial benefits to Phoenix and they badly need those. Although, we are hoping that they are actually winning as a legit franchise.
Their four wins were against NLEX, Ginebra, Rain or Shine and Meralco. Not that elite but not that bad either. The Ginebra victory was the biggest one.
The most important number right now that is making them look very good to me as a contender is that they are forcing the lowest points per game, right now. In short, their defense is superb.
Their local players are also thriving. That means the trade value of their current core is improving.
So, are they legit?
I am not yet convinced that they can really contend for the title. But, their next two games against TNT and Converge can convince me.
