PBA Power Ranking: Top 10 Title Contenders - Ginebra is not #1!

The ongoing competition is getting hotter by the day! Barangay Ginebra just dealt the first defeat to Magnolia Hotshots.

No team is currently undefeated!

Here are currently my top 10 contenders after more than a month of games.

#10 NLEX Road Warriors
NLEX is commendable for having a good 3-3 record at this point of the tournament. Earl Clark is a legit badass. Still though. I cannot trust their current local core to provide enough support for them to win the crown.

#9 Northport Batang Pier
Robert Bolick is a beast. I mean, he is putting up import-like numbers. I wonder though if Prince Ibeh is really the right import for them. And if he can really sustain his form.

#8 Phoenix Super LPG
Actually, this is hard for me because I do not think their import is good enough. But their defense is just too good this conference. They are currently #1 in terms of Opponent points per game. A good indication that their defense is legit.

#7 Rain or Shine Elasto Painters
Coach Yeng Guiao is just a different beast. After being mediocre in the last several tournaments, Rain or Shine is suddenly so interesting under coach Yeng. I think there are still a lot of potential improvement that this team can make in the remaining games.

#6 San Miguel Beermen
Their run to the championship in the Philippine Cup was impressive. I just do not think I trust them enough to be a a top 5 team at this point. The injury to Junemar Fajardo is bringing chills to the spine of not only their coaching staff but their players.

#5 Converge Fiber Xers
The numbers is clearly pointing to Quincy Miller as the best import in this tournament. 33.4 points, 48% FG, 3.8 three-pointers made, 15.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.2 steals and 4.0 blocks per game is just too good to be true.

#4 Magnolia
They are still #2 in the ranking even with that defeat at the hands of Barangay Ginebra. What worries me right now is the reality that their roster did not change. Even their numbers are telling us that they do not do anything special. One thing is for sure though, Rakocevic should sustain his production or else, Magnolia will suffer.

#3 TNT Tropang Giga
They are better than what their record is saying. They are #4 in terms of points per game and #6 in terms of opponent points per game. They are facing a lot of injury issues and they still have good numbers.

#2 Barangay Ginebra San Miguel
It is good that Barangay Ginebra showed that they still have the Never Say Die attitude. What should you worry you was the reality that Magnolia actually outplayed them for the majority of the game. And that losing to Phoenix is unacceptable.

#1 Bay Area Dragons
They are the safest choice for now. They are #1 in terms of points per game and #2 in terms of opponent points per game. They now need to make a choice between Myles Powell and Andrew Nicholson. I do not think there is a bad choice between the two.
