It is not a coincidence that Meralco Bolts is struggling after Chris Newsome was sidelined due to an injury.
Chris is their ace player. Cliff Hodge is their heart and soul but without their ace player, Meralco is missing their main weapon. The most consistent guy in breaking down the defense.
Now, will this be the last season that Chris will play in Meralco?
It is possible because he is about to become an Unrestricted Free Agent.
Which teams should make an offer for him?
NLEX
Assuming that NLEX is actually serious about winning the crown. Finding another player that can create shots is a must. Newsome can be that guy and he will surely make the life of Kevin Alas, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and Don Trollano easier. I mean, they are the MVP team with the lowest salary expenses right now. So, they can offer more than Meralco if they want to.
Ginebra
This is all about the Philippine Cup. Stanley Pringle is not at his peak form already. He cannot consistently breakdown the defense. Scottie is best maximized as an on/off ball threat. Newsome can pass. He seems to be the right type of scoring player that Ginebra needs.
Converge
The easiest one. I again applaud coach Aldin in creating an offense so good that they do not need someone to create shots for the majority of their half court sets. Nevertheless, playoffs can be a different beast and getting a higher level scorer in Newsome could be the key to catapult them to the championship.
