PBA Imports Highlights: Meralco and Rain or Shine will bring back reliable Americans!

I understand that the finals of the 2022-2023 PBA Commissioner's Cup is still on going and Ginebra just got the head start!

The 2023 PBA Governors' Cup though will be happening right away as the league wants to give the longest possible preparation time for the Gilas Pilipinas.

So, the reinforcement for the upcoming tournament are slowly being revealed. Let us put a grade to the decisions of each team.

Meralco Bolts - KJ McDaniels
KJ was the last ditch card of Meralco during the Commissioner's Cup. Unfortunately, he was late as Meralco still failed to catch-up to the playoff train. Nevertheless, KJ was awesome with his 27.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.3 steals, 2.3 blocks and 2.5 three-pointers made per game.

With more time to build up his chemistry to the team and with smaller imports, I expect a monstrous tournament for KJ.
Grade: A

Rain or Shine - Michael Qualls
Qualls was awesome in his 2019 stint with Northport Batang Pier. He even led them to the semifinals, losing to Barangay Ginebra. Qualls is an athletic scorer who can drive to the basket and pull-up from beyond the arc. In his most recent stint, he produced 27.2 points, 39% 3FG and 7.4 rebounds per game.

With the current line-up of Rain or Shine, he should be a fine fit. The only issue could be his low assist numbers. Nevertheless, coach Yeng Guiao should be trusted to create a scheme that will fit him well.
Grade: B
