PBA Analysis: Is Converge a legit championship contender?

In the Commissioner's Cup, Converge was the story of the elimination round. They won a lot of games and exhibited things that made fans hopeful that they can challenge the big boys in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, they falter in the quarterfinals. It seems like the benching of Quincy Miller backfired.

Converge is once again the story of the early days of the elimination round of this Governors' Cup with their 3-0 card and now at the top of the standings.

So, are they legit contenders now?

NO!

The biggest question for Converge remains to be the talent level of their local roster. It will be hard to trust a team with a roster that is not one of the four most powerful ones in the league.

Their quick run in the playoffs last conference also shows that the coaching staff is still green to trust them.

YES!

Winning remains to be the biggest test to see if a team can do it in the playoffs. Converge has shown that they can win. That they have a system that can win games.

It also encouraging that some of their players are showing improvement like Maverick Ahanmisi and Alec Stockton.

CONCLUSION

I will not trust them yet as a title contender. Unless they manage to get one of the top 2 spots and Maverick keeps his production on its current level.
