PBA Analysis: Three steps to make Phoenix squad a Championship contender!

With the very strong rumor coming from Snow Badua, majority of the fans in the PBA are now anticipating the sale of the Phoenix Super LPG.

What we are really hoping now is that Phoenix will not sell their players and just wait for a new owner to do what he wants.

I think they have excellent building blocks to contend right away. Tyler Tio and Encho Serrano has the making of an excellent backcourt as early as next season. Jason Perkins and Javee Mocon are arguably two of the top 5 most underrated player in the league.

I think they are much closer to contention than people believes. So to try and allure the potential buyer of the franchise, let me suggest three steps that can make them a title contender!

#3 Draft as many giants as possible.
The biggest need of Phoenix is a giant. In their entire run in the league, they never had one. Even without a 1st round pick in the upcoming draft, there is a chance that there is at least one bigman that stands above 6'7 will be available in the 2nd round. Phoenix should get that guy and develop him.

#2 Trade for underrated centers
The guy that they will draft in #3 will just be part of the bench of Phoenix. What Phoenix should do is to trade for a starting-caliber center. I think, there are two excellent target and their rights are on the same team. Greg Slaughter will still be the biggest player in the PBA if he returns. Knowing that a buyer will be a new team in the league,

I think they could be allowed to try and lure back Slaughter. If Slaughter is not available, Troy Rike is an excellent option B. He has the potential to be a top 5 shooter in the league and he is a center!

#1 Choose coach Alex Compton as head coach and retain coach Jamike Jarin
There is a good argument that coach Jamike is one of the best assistant coach this season before he took over. I think, he will excel if he will go back to that role and let a much more successful coach like Alex to lead the way.

Imagine a team of Slaughter, Perkins, Mocon, Tio and Serrano being handled by coach Alex.
