As expected, the match-up between Magnolia Hotshots and Meralco Bolts ended up as the closest encounter in the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup Quarterfinals.
It went to overtime and Meralco completed a comeback led by Chris Newsome's 33 points and the clutch performance of Aaron Black.
I am pretty sure the Magnolia fans are not happy with the performance of Newsome and Black. And I think they are pretty angry with Cliff Hodge.
Hodge was again a magnet of physicality as Magnolia players were hurt again with his play. There were two big offenses.
The first one was his hit to the import of Magnolia that even Calvin Abueva The Beast came out and gave him what he deserves.
The second one was as obvious as his foot was seen to extend in his play against Mark Barroca in the 2nd quarter.
He received a flagrant foul penalty one in his first offense but not the second one. With what I saw in the game, the body movement of Hodge is telling me that the hurt that he is giving to his opponents are not really a by-product of his hyper-type of play anymore.
He is becoming a dirty player. Maybe, he is already the dirtiest player in the league.
