PBA Controversy: SMB legend Danny Seigle and Alex Cabagnot jerseys' should be retired, RIGHT?

Arwind Santos, a former PBA MVP, has expressed his surprise and disappointment at witnessing the jersey numbers of San Miguel greats, Danny Seigle (42) and Alex Cabagnot (5), being worn by current Beermen players, Ivan Aska and Allyn Bulanadi.

Santos, known for his outspoken nature, emphasized the significance of showing respect for the legacy associated with these iconic jersey numbers. While acknowledging that current players have the right to use non-retired numbers, he wished that the numbers worn by Seigle and Cabagnot were treated with more reverence.

Santos highlighted the tradition in some PBA teams and players choosing not to use iconic jersey numbers out of respect for the players associated with those numbers.

He cited the example of Maverick Ahanmisi, who opted for the No. 00 jersey instead of his usual No. 30, as a demonstration of this tradition.

The former FEU star expressed discomfort at the thought of other players donning Seigle and Cabagnot's numbers and speculated that it might have been an oversight by the management.

Arwind Santos went further to underscore the need to give due respect to Seigle and Cabagnot for their significant contributions to the San Miguel Beermen.

He pointed out their role in winning championships and attracting a fanbase. Santos questioned the decision to allow the use of these numbers and hoped that one day his own jersey, along with the 'Death 5,' would be retired at San Miguel.

Despite being traded to Northport Batang Pier in 2021, Santos dreams of returning for a farewell tour and eventual retirement at San Miguel, highlighting his deep connection and aspirations with the team.

Regarding the jersey retirement of Alex Cabagnot and Danny Seigle, I think the key question is, is the accomplishment of Alex and Danny in the SMB uniform comparable to the SMB legends with retired jerseys?

Danny has seven championships with them while Alex has nine.
