PBA Trade Rumors: Converge should consider trading for Mikey Williams!

In response to the impasse in contract renegotiation talks and Mikey Williams' refusal to return to the Philippines, TNT took a decisive step by sending a termination letter to the guard. Senior consultant Chot Reyes confirmed the move, emphasizing the status quo of Williams' absence. Despite being named the Finals Most Valuable Player of the 2023 Governors' Cup, Williams has remained in the United States, leading to the termination of his contract.

The termination comes after months of unsuccessful renegotiation talks, and Williams activated an option in his three-year contract extension for a possible renegotiation after one year. With no resolution in sight and Williams still in the United States, TNT decided to send the termination letter. The guard's absence compounds TNT's roster challenges, already missing key players like RR Pogoy, Poy Erram, Justin Chua, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, and Paul Varilla.

As for Williams' PBA future, Reyes stated that, at the moment, there are no plans to trade him, emphasizing that TNT still holds his rights. This situation echoes the case of Bobby Ray Parks Jr., who left TNT in 2021 but remains under the team's rights unless released. Williams, similarly, is in PBA limbo unless TNT decides to trade or release him. The Commissioner, Willie Marcial, confirmed that under league rules, Williams cannot sign with another team, and his rights will remain with TNT.

Now, one possibility to resolve this is to send Mikey to another team through trade. Ginebra and SMB are the popular destinations because of what they can trade for him and the reality that most of his friends are there.

One interesting team though that may want to consider is Converge. Converge is currently not in good terms with the league. And when we say the league, we are 90% pointing to the MVP group and SMC.

I still believed that Converge is capable of paying big money and if Maverick Ahanmisi and Jeron Teng were not worth it for those contracts, I think Mikey is.

Imagine getting a superstar who can be the face of your battle against the league. Fans and PBA higher-ups are not fan of the guy. Imagine what they will feel if Mikey carry Converge into a crown?
