Kai Sotto Highlight: Kai is now NBA-ready?

Let’s delve into the question: Is Kai Sotto ready for the NBA?

The short answer is, not quite yet. Despite impressive stats, his game still heavily leans on his towering height.

Let’s take a look at the recent performance of Kai Sotto, the 7’3" center from the Philippines, who has been making waves in the B.League with the Yokohama B-Corsairs. Sotto has been on a scoring spree, hitting double digits in seven consecutive games, a new personal record.

However, the B-Corsairs’ winning streak of three games was halted abruptly on Saturday, with a disheartening 90-76 defeat to Nagasaki Velca. Yokohama started strong, but a devastating 34-10 run in the second quarter by Velca turned the tide, keeping the B-Corsairs at arm’s length until the final whistle.

Despite the team’s loss, Sotto’s commendable performance persisted. He netted 17 points on a 7/12 shooting in 29 minutes of play. This game marks Sotto’s seventh consecutive double-figure scoring game, extending his personal best.

Unfortunately, Sotto’s streak of double-doubles ended at three games as he managed to pull down only six rebounds in the loss, marking his lowest rebounding performance since February 4.

So, while Sotto’s numbers are indeed impressive, it’s clear that his game is still heavily reliant on his size. The NBA, with its plethora of skilled big men, will be a different beast altogether. For now, it seems, Sotto still has some growing to do before he’s NBA-ready.
