We have one of the most interesting Best Player of the Conference race, for a while. There is no clear front-runner in the race and I will not be shocked if you cannot even named your top 3 candidate. So, who are the top 5 candidates for the award? Let me give my take.
#5 Terrence Romeo
Terrence' numbers were not as dazzling as before but still, he ended as the top local scorer in the elimination round. He scored 20.1 points in 42% shooting from the field and 32.8% from beyond the arc.
Other than scoring, he also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. That 6.0 assists per game is the third best in the league. That combination of playmaking, passing and scoring had elevated Terrence in the BPC conversation.
#4 LA Tenorio
Tenorio have his best scoring conference in 5 years! He scattered 15.0 points per game in the elimination round with 47.1% FG and 46.7% 3FG efficiency. His 2nd best scoring conference happened in 2012-13 Commissioner's Cup!
He did not slow down in the playoffs where in he poured 15.4 points per game in 41.7% FG and 36.7% 3FG shooting. Of course, he also provided rebounds and assists.
#3 Baser Amer
The Hammer was the breakout story of the conference. After failing to top 7.7 points per game in his first four conferences in the league, he went 15.3 points this time. Unlike the two players above him, he was not that reliant from his outside-shooting. Instead, he worked around the huge screens of Stephenson.
In their three games classic showdown with TNT, he carried Meralco with his 23.7 points, 50% FG, 40% 3FG, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists provision. I am pretty sure the other 11 teams had taken notice of the rise of this phenomenal scoring PG.
