Meralco continue to build up their reputation as one of the fastest rising franchises in the league with their 7-4 finished in the elimination round. Three of their four losses came against three semifinalist, the SMC sister teams. Baser Amer had solidified the point guard position with his 15.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 45.1% FG and 38.5% 3FG. So, which position should they address next? Let us see.
KG Canaleta
KG ain't young. Next season could be his last season playing as an average player. No, this could even be his last. But, Meralco is so good in finding the right import that they can actually challenge for the title next conference!
KG is still athletic enough to defend the 2-4 position. That versatility alone will be helpful in containing small-but-terrific reinforcements. Then, add the fact that he can play 4 and stretch the floor for Newsome and Amer to operate.
Jericho De Guzman
Do you remember the coach of Greg Slaugther in his Ateneo days? Yes, the coach that led his team to five straight championships. I am talking about Norman Black. Coach Norman knows how to used giants to win games. De Guzman is the most under-utilize big in the game!
Alex Stephenson was a mediocre player, if we only count skills. Fortunately, he has the size. Coach Norman can also do that with JDG.
